Sustainable HR Examples
Today a quick post briefly outlining ideas for integrating sustainability into your day-to-day business practice and supporting employees through Sustainable HR. Dedicated wellness time: Some businesses schedule regular paid development or wellness time for all employees. Rather than reducing productivity, this increases employee engagement. This has also been shown to increase morale and lower sick leave.
Making choices like this clearly demonstrates that well-being and a holistic approach to supporting employees (not just “using” their work) are a core practice at your business. The aim of this is for employees to choose activities that they feel will inspire them as well as having long-term effects both on them personally and their work.
To support and develop this as a way of building loyalty and engagement, staff are often expected to either brainstorm with their team about issues they would like to use this time to "solve". They are then supported by having colleagues suggest options, helping develop whichever solution the employee chooses to increase its likelihood of success and updates for everyone involved on how it went after-the-fact.
Other examples in this area include: allowing flexible work schedules or working from home, conducting (and responding thoughtfully to) regular employee satisfaction and engagement surveys and creating employee-centred policies and a Handbook that are clearly aligned and integrated with company Values.
